Stroop vs dscout[1]

dscout bundles a panel, AI moderation and project services. Stroop runs the diary in the same study as your usability, IA and implicit work, and you run it yourself.

Who should choose dscout

  • You want participants recruited and the project designed and delivered for you. dscout's Select and Enterprise plans include design and delivery services on several projects at once.
  • AI-moderated studies are the method you're after, or real-time intercepts on your own site. dscout runs both. We run neither.
  • You want a diary product with years behind it: multi-part missions, automated pacing, and entries over days, weeks or a whole year.

If that describes your team, choose dscout. The rest of this page is for the teams it doesn't describe.

The diary is one block in a study you design.

Usability, IA and implicit methods beside the diary

A two-week diary, a tree test on the app's navigation and a brand IAT can share participants and one link. Each produces its own scored output, and the findings across all three cite the entries and sessions they came from.

Sample study
A two-week diary, a tree test and a brand IAT in one study.

Installed from the study link

Participants open the link and add the diary to their home screen as a web app. No app store and no account. Reminders arrive by push or email, and by SMS where you switch it on.

Sample study
Day 6 of 14 in Northway's colours, added to the home screen from the link.

Each entry arrives transcribed and tagged.

Video entries come back with a transcript, tags and a summary, and the line that matters marked. Beside it, what dscout lists for analysis.

Sample study
A video entry from day 5, transcribed and tagged, beside today's photo entry.

Switching takes a weekend.

  • Participant lists come across as CSV or XLSX. Map the columns once and each person lands in the right workspace with their attributes.
  • A diary that's already running should finish where it started. Start the next one here.
  • Your dscout missions and media stay with dscout unless you export them. We don't import them.

Questions

Do participants need to install an app?

Not from an app store. They open the study link on their phone and add the diary to the home screen as a web app, which takes a few taps. Entries can be text, photos, video or audio, drafts are kept offline, and uploads resume if the signal drops.

Can Stroop recruit diary participants for me?

No. You invite them: your client's customers, your own panel, a recruiter, or a service such as Prolific pointed at the study link. If you want recruitment and project delivery bundled, dscout offers both, and that's a fair reason to pay for it.

How is a diary study priced on Stroop?

By the day it's live, at a rate set by how many participants are active: $20 a day up to 30, then two higher bands, then a small amount per participant above 150. 50 participants for 4 weeks is $980. There's a 7-day minimum and no charge for paused days.

What is Stroop?

Stroop is the all-in-one research and testing platform. Run usability tests, prototypes, surveys, tree tests, diaries and IATs in one study, and get results back transcribed, scored and charted, with every finding linked to the session it came from. The first 30 study-days are free, with no card.
