Acceptable use

Stroop is for research people agreed to take part in. These rules are part of the terms, and they apply to everyone in your organisation.

Last updated 17 October 2026.

Stroop is the all-in-one research and testing platform. Run usability tests, prototypes, surveys, tree tests, diaries and IATs in one study, and get results back transcribed, scored and charted, with every finding linked to the session it came from.

Consent

  • Every recording needs consent first. Don't record anyone's screen, camera or voice until they've agreed on the consent screen.
  • Don't record people who haven't been told, such as others in the room or on a call. Tell everyone in a moderated session that it's recorded before you start.
  • Don't run covert research. Deception that is accepted research practice is allowed when an ethics process has approved it and participants are debriefed afterwards.
  • Don't research children without a parent or guardian's consent where the law requires it. Stroop screens out under-16s by default. Only lower that for a study marked sensitive with an ethics reference, and never below 13.

Participants' data

  • Don't use Stroop to recruit people for anything but research, and don't sell, rent or trade participants' data.
  • Don't collect more than your study needs, and never passwords, card numbers or government ID numbers.
  • Don't contact participants who asked not to be contacted.

Content and conduct

  • Don't upload or show anything unlawful, or anything that harasses, threatens or exploits people.
  • Don't use a study for phishing, spam or collecting sign-in details, including prototypes that imitate another company's login page.
  • Don't upload prototype code that attacks participants, other sites or Stroop: no malware, no crypto-mining, no scanning, no attempts to break out of the sandbox.
  • Don't upload material you don't have the right to use.
  • Don't try to reach another customer's data, get around limits, or overload the service.

What happens if these rules are broken

We may suspend a study link or an organisation while we look into it. We'll email the owner with the reason and a way to respond. Serious or repeated breaches end the account under the terms.

Reporting a study

If you took part in a study, or saw one, that breaks these rules, email [email protected] with the study link and what happened. A person reads every report.
