Test the Figma file, the build or the site.[1]

Every session comes back recorded and transcribed, with task success, paths and SUS worked out, and every finding cited to the second it happened.

Sample study
Usability results for 38 sessions: task success with its interval, time on task, paths and a SUS of 71.5.

Figma prototypes, code prototypes from a zip or GitHub, and website tests, unmoderated and recorded. Moderated sessions have their own page.

Update the Figma file. The task paths stay.

Unmoderated usability testing is a session where the participant works through tasks on a prototype or a site alone, recorded, with no researcher in the room.

Task paths are stored against Figma frame ids, not positions, so a designer can move, rename or redesign screens mid-study and the expected path follows them.

A designer moves two screens and redesigns a third, mid-study. Press it and watch the dashed path.

Sample study
Task paths are tied to frames, so a file update leaves them where they were.

Code prototypes, on their own domain.

A code prototype is the built thing: a zip of the files or a GitHub repo, run as a real site.

Every version gets its own address on withstroop.xyz, a separate domain, so prototype code never runs next to your account.

Sample study
Orbit Rail's ticket app, built from GitHub. The study is pinned to v3.

Participants open a link and start the first task.

Nothing to install and no account. A pre-flight check catches a blocked microphone before the first task, and every screen carries Northway Research's logo and colour.

Website tests run on the client's live site with no change to its code. Participants add a browser extension, or you run the test as a screen recording only.

Sample study
Fenwick Grocers' live site with the task panel docked over it. Recording, task 2 of 3.

A SUS and a tree test after the prototype, same people.

Put the prototype, a SUS and a tree test in one study. Participants go from one to the next on the same link, and the results sit side by side.

Stroop is the all-in-one research and testing platform. Run usability tests, prototypes, surveys, tree tests, diaries and IATs in one study, and get results back transcribed, scored and charted, with every finding linked to the session it came from.

Sample study
One study, one link, the same participants from the first block to the last.

Every session comes back transcribed, every finding cited.

Screen, voice and camera arrive with the transcript in sync. Ask the assistant where people hesitated and each answer cites the participant and the second. Press a citation and that moment plays.

How analysis works
Sample study
Three findings from twelve sessions, each cited to the moment.

Where it stops.

A week-long test with up to 40 recorded sessions is $63. See every rate

  • Native apps aren't recorded. On a phone, participants use the phone's own screen recorder and upload the file.
  • In a phone browser, Stroop records the camera, the microphone and taps. It can't see the screen.
  • Figma prototypes have to be shared as Anyone with the link can view, or participants hit a login screen.

Questions

How many participants does a usability test need?

Five to eight per user group will surface most of the serious problems in a round. That's for finding problems. If you want a task success rate you can quote to a client, plan on 20 or more, because Stroop prints the 95% interval beside every rate and at five people it's very wide.

Should participants think aloud?

Think aloud when you're looking for problems, stay silent when you're timing. Talking slows people down, so time on task from a think-aloud round won't compare with a silent benchmark. Stroop records voice either way; what the task instructions ask for decides which study you're running.

Can I test a form with text fields in Figma?

Only partly, because Figma prototypes can't take typed text. Most teams show the field already filled after a tap. If typing is what you're testing, upload the built form as a code prototype or test it on the live site, where participants type into real fields.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in the phone's own browser, with nothing to install and no account. There, Stroop records the camera, the microphone and every tap, but not the screen. For a native app, participants use the phone's screen recorder and upload the file at the end of the task.

Where do the participants come from?

You invite them: your customers, a client's users, a recruiter's list, or a panel such as Prolific through a link, paid directly. Stroop doesn't recruit and charges nothing per participant.
